Martin reflects on One Year at Autus
Introduction
As I inch closer to the first anniversary of my professional journey with Autus Consulting, looking back at how everything got started seems surreal, yet complete.
Starting as an intern, part of the 10-week work experience for my International Marketing degree, to becoming a full-time employee seems nothing less than a whirlwind of growth, learning, and invaluable experiences.
1. My journey at Autus Consulting
From day one, I was thrown into the deep end with welcoming hands to every challenge, which was an opportunity to convert academic knowledge into real skills. At Autus, it was not just work; it felt like a real platform for professional growth.
In fact, I felt a part of the team from the very beginning, which spurred me into real action.
The mentorship I received from Tom was second to none. He really took me under his wing, simplifying not only very complex marketing strategies but also how to effectively go through corporate landscapes.
As the internship ended, I began working part-time: 2/2.5 days per week at Autus and the rest studying. Over a period of 9–10 months, it was a continuous act of balancing academic deadlines with professional commitments — an intense yet rewarding process.
Working part-time allowed me to gradually take up more responsibility and helped me in a smooth transition from academic life to professional life. I always learned how to manage my time and prioritise my tasks to make sure that I could deliver on both academic and work commitments without compromising the quality of either.
Now, as I step into a full-time role, I am both nervous and excited about the prospects. Although it’s only been a week, the transition feels like a natural progression of my ongoing journey at Autus Consulting.
2. Some vital lessons from my first year at Autus
Customer-Centric Strategies: Beyond Service For Autus, this is the approach that has been customer-centric and critical for the business. It has enabled us to lengthen the lifecycles of our customers and make sure that added value in dealing with us carries—further assurance that deep and continuous customer relationships really matter. Our ability to understand and meet their needs has remained at the core of our success.
Being exposed to the likes of marketing automation platforms like Sharpspring is nothing less than a revelation to me. This enables us to work with much more power, much more efficaciously, increase our marketing capabilities, and automate complex sequences based on user actions. The potential, be it through personalised email campaigns or complex strategies in retargeting, is humongous and is still unfolding.
Maybe one of the most exciting trends I’ve seen is this explosion in interest in short-form videos, both on platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, which has really changed the game for the way brands are connecting with audiences, more so small businesses.
We’ve started adding short-form videos to our clients’ strategies at Autus. The instant spike in engagement and viewership is incredible. For example, a very short and basic product feature video that is around 30 seconds in length can lift the conversion by a huge amount and help enhance the digital presence.
Final Reflection
Celebrating one year at Autus Consulting, I am filled with grateful feelings and feelings of achievement. So many great lessons learned and so much growth.
Embracing a customer-centric approach has reinforced the importance of building lasting relationships, while the power of marketing automation has opened my eyes to new efficiencies and capabilities.
Additionally, the rise of short-form videos has reshaped how we engage with our audience, proving to be a game-changer in our strategies.
